Emmy A. discovered Wattpad in 2011 of July and has since focused intently on her writing and with the unwavering, encouraging support of her gracious and loyal fans, has completed three out of four novels. Her book ‘Beloved Beast’ has made her a finalist in the 2012 Watty Awards. She owes all praise and gratitude to her devoted and most genuine fans. Without them, her books would be left unheard and unread. This week I decided to catch up with the hot new sensational Author Emmy A, to find out more about her and her debut novel Moon Bitten.
1: What is your favourite quote, by whom, and why? By far my most favourite quote is the following by William Faulkner – “The scattered tea goes with the leaves and every day a sunset dies.” I’m really unsure as to what the meaning is behind the quote. It was a favourite of mine that stuck with me and I am forever seeking its meaning.
2: How long have you been writing? I have been writing since 5th grade. It began simply as a hobby and from there stemmed into a dream.
3: What genre are you most comfortable writing? I am an avid writer of Romance. I love the telling of two individuals falling hopelessly in love with all obstacles standing in their way and them overcoming it.
4: Can you share a little of your current work with us? I am currently working on a contemporary werewolf-romance. It focuses solely on the forbidden love of the two protagonists, one being human and the other loup-garou (werewolf). There are many obstacles standing in their way from the heroine’s own insecurities and resistance having dealt with a violent past, to the hero’s complexities of being alpha of his loup-garou pack and the instantaneous connection he feels for the heroine which is deemed forbidden among his kind.
5: Can you tell us about your main character? Kate Channing is an emotionally scarred and secretive woman. She’s fled her violent past in hopes of beginning anew. She struggles with the burden of a lost child and the haunting remembrance of abuse and is always fearful that the sole object of her pain may resurface. She certainly doesn’t anticipate on Ronan Morrissey, a dangerous and secretive man all his own to take an immediate interest in her. She is resistant to him, adamant that he is the very thing she is fleeing, yet immensely unaware of the feelings he rouses in her.
6: How important do you think villains are in a story? A villain is by far most crucial in any story. They are what keep you intrigued and at the edge of your seat. These are the characters that tear your protagonists apart and will do anything to threaten their budding romance. They are the type of characters that bring about conflict and demise. I love a good villain.
7: What are your goals as a writer? I would love to be published. I hope to one day stroll into a bookstore and see my novels lining the shelves. It’s a dream of mine that flourishes every day.
8: Who is your favourite author and why? I am an avid reader of J.R Ward. Her writing style and characters are all their own. She’s incomparable and her characters are what appeals to me most. She’s one of those writers whose books I simply cannot put down.
9: What do you do to unwind and relax? I drink a substantial amount of coffee and listen to my IPod
10: If you could leave your readers with one bit of wisdom, what would you want it to be? I would tell my readers that if you have a dream pursue it with every fiber in your being whether there are people who support or dispute it. I am struggling myself in achieving my goals but I will not let anything or anyone deter that.
Author’s Bio:
Emmy A. cultivated her love of reading and writing as a means of escaping the complexities of everyday life. She fell into a semblance of normalcy by seeking the comforts of Christine Feehan, Karen Robards and other works of infamous authors that appealed to her hopeless-romantic heart. No matter the shadowed parts of her life, things were blissfully easier with a book in hand and her ideals at heart. Writing was liberating for Emmy as well as her passion for drawing, these interests never failing her imaginative thoughts.
She sought after happy endings portrayed in the very novels lining her shelves, these page-turners further encouraging her dreams at becoming a Romance novelist. Her dream was inspired by ideals of love conquering all. Writing was a means of liberation, the world fading unto nothing whilst her notions wondered waywardly. The beautiful swirl of words printed on tattered pages bound in a book, appealed to her idealistic thoughts more than all else. She’s written many short-stories and poetry. Emmy is an avid reader of all genres. When choosing a book, that first page has to snare her attention and she believes the first sentence is the most crucial when drawing in readers. She seeks characters that are relatable with a good portrayal of emotions and gestures. What’s a novel without a good bit of action? Have the readers at the edge of their seats, craving more, turning the page before they’ve finished reading. Do the characters fall into place with their settings and descriptions? Emmy seeks a good read, one in particular to where she cannot put it down. She is quite impressed with intricate, witty dialogue and heated debates between protagonists. She also looks for good description, the ways in which a writer describes a room or the foreground for war between two opposing enemies ready to settle their quarrels. Description is utmost for the imaginative mind to run wild.
